Former Manchester City coach takes over from Ben Chilwell

He replaces Ben Chilwell, who left Chelsea to join Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer.

Maresca is a highly-rated coach and has a good track record of developing young players.

  • Born in Naples, Italy, on 10 February 1980.
  • Began his playing career with hometown club Napoli in 1997.
  • Went on to play for a number of clubs in Italy, Spain, and England, including Juventus, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.
  • Retired from playing in 2017 and began his coaching career as a youth coach at Manchester City.
  • Was promoted to assistant manager of Manchester City in 2019.
  • Left Manchester City in 2021 and has been out of work since then.

He is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to Chelsea's Under-21s.
